How do I start my assessment?

There are 2 methods of proctoring - live and automated. Don’t worry if you’re not sure which one you have as the system will walk you through the process. Read through both sections to familiarise yourself with the process. This video gives a good overview of the process.

Live Proctoring

  1. Ensure all browser windows and apps, except the test window, are closed.
  2. Log in to Testgrid at oxygen.testgrid.com five minutes before your scheduled appointment and click Start.
  3. You are now being connected to the proctoring service, which is facilitated by a company called Meazure Learning. You will be asked if you are an EU citizen. If you are, select Yes and you will be taken to Meazure Learning’s GDPR information which you should read. Meazure Learning will also ask for a way to contact you about your data if required. If you are not an EU citizen, select No.
  4. If you have not yet downloaded the browser extension, you will be prompted to do so now.
Download the Guardian Secure Proctoring Browser
  5. You will now be required to connect to a proctor.
  6. Follow the instructions on screen to download and install the LogMeIn file. This is what your proctor will use to communicate with you. On a Mac, you may also be asked to update your system preferences. If prompted, be sure to click “open” or “allow” to give the file permission to run. When the chat box says “waiting,” it means that you are in the queue waiting for your proctor. TIP: If your status shows “waiting,” do not re-download the applet file as that will put you back at the end of the queue.
  7. You will be asked to agree to the session being recorded.
  8. Photos & Authentication:
You’ll take a photo of yourself as well as your I.D. for identity verification purposes. Depending on the level of verification required by your organisation, you may be asked to answer a series of randomly generated, challenge questions. You may also be required to type out a paragraph of text that will be checked against a pre-existing typing test that you would have been asked to complete prior to exam day. Both of these are optional measures selected by your organisation.
  9. Proctor Connection & Confirmations:
Your proctor will greet you and confirm that you passed your identity verification steps. You’ll review the rules with your proctor and they’ll ask to see any permitted resources that your instructor has allowed you to use during your exam. The Exam Rule Check dashboard has these sections:
    • Guidelines - this gives you some advice on how to behave during the assessment - ie stay quiet and stay in your seat so the proctor can see you at all times
    • Accommodations - this lets you know if your recruiter has allowed any special testing conditions for you
    • Rules - read the rules carefully so you know what to expect. The proctor will observe your assessment session and will notify the recruiter if any of these rules are not followed
    • Breaks - the recruiter may allow a break and if so, it will be shown here. Do not close the browser window during a break
    • Allowed resources - this lists what you are allowed to bring into your assessment eg calculator
    • Other resources - if anything else has been allowed by your recruiter, it will be listed here. Any items not listed under Allowed or Other Resources must be put away and your proctor will prompt you to do so
  10. Share your screen:
You will now be asked to share your screen. You will need to click on the specific window that you want to share.
  11. Remote System Check:
Your proctor will ask to take remote control of your mouse and keyboard via the LogMeIn Rescue applet in order to make sure no unpermitted programs are running. You will be able to see everything that your proctor is doing during this step, and it is impossible for them to access any files without your knowledge.
  12. Camera Pan:
Your proctor will ask you to show the 4 walls of your room as well as your desk space via your webcam. You may or may not also be asked to show your computer monitor. Your proctor will make sure your phone is out of reach.
  13. Navigating to the Assessment & Password Entry:
Your proctor will then direct you into your Testgrid account so that he or she can unlock your assessment.
  14. Take Your Assessment:
Your proctor will release control of your computer and you’ll begin your assessment when you’re ready. NOTE: Your webcam view and your screen will be recorded through the duration of your exam.

Once you’ve completed your assessment:

  1. Alert the proctor when finished BEFORE submitting:
Prior to submitting your assessment, let your proctor know through the chat box that you’re finished. They will oversee the submission process. You may also be required to clear a white board or tear up any paper that was used during the assessment.
  2. Log out of Testgrid and your browser:
Your proctor must observe you log out of Testgrid and close out of all browser tabs.
  3. Close out of Meazure Learning chat box:
This will end your session with Meazure Learning. Once the chat box closes, you’ll be invited to complete a customer satisfaction survey.
  4. You may also choose to uninstall the Guardian browser.

Automated Proctoring

  1. Log in to Testgrid at oxygen.testgrid.com when you’re ready to take your assessment.
  2. Pre-checks:
If you don’t already have the Meazure Learning extension, you’ll be prompted to download it. You’ll be required to accept the guidelines and terms of service. The browser will prompt you to share your screen, a required part of being proctored online. You’ll be automatically guided through a series of equipment checks to make sure your system meets minimum requirements.
  4. Assessment Rule Acceptance:
You will be required to review and accept the assessment rules outlined by your organisation.
  5. Take Your Assessment:
The system will review how to get assistance during your assessment and you can click the button to begin when you’re ready.

NOTE: Your webcam view and your screen will be recorded through the duration of your exam. This will be reviewed later to ensure you complied with the rules laid out by your organisation. Although the pre-checks are conducted by a proctor, they will not be online during your assessment and you will not be able to interact with them.
